Janet Botes
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Janet Botes is an artist who works intuitively to express her appreciation for the sacredness, cycles, and biodiversity of the Earth in her art and workshops. In her exploratory approach to art, the initial concept for an artwork often changes and evolves. The process is guided by spontaneous responses to the subject matter and materials, and in this sense each artwork is a new exploration and adventure. Her work includes Land Art, Installation Art, Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media, Photography, Digital Art and Assemblage – and often involves her working just as much in the outdoors than in the studio. Currently, Janet is integrating her spiritual practice into her artistic practice in ways that (1) seek to inspire others to see the magic in everyday life, (2) expressing her emotional response to the world, and (3) emphasize the creative ritual as a guiding force for sacred and embodied living.
ABOUT THE WORK:
In this little collage-type, mixed media series, cutout poetry, organic lines and blue moodiness are woven together. Each of these artworks include Soylent Green paper, often utilised for its unique colour, or pieces of grass or text found embedded between the fibers. Some artworks in the series are melancholic, some emotive, while others are odes to love or nature's beauty.
Janet's work often express impressions about our relationship with the world, and nature around and within ourselves. In these little artworks she was inspired by poetry, music, forests, mushrooms, the ocean, the ecological health of the planet, human potential for growth, human relationships, as well as finding healing for emotional or mental health challenges in the natural world.
